It isn’t hard to imagine the advantages of solar energy on the continent of Africa. With so much direct sunlight covering much of the continent, solar power seems a natural choice for many of these countries. Not surprisingly, the nation of Rwanda is getting on board with solar power. The government just announced that 300 rural schools will be receiving solar panels to help improve the conditions for students.

Powering rural communities through other methods has proven difficult, with wide expanses needing wires run to connect to a grid. With solar panels, these schools in remote areas can get the power they need at a lower cost for the government.

The plan doesn’t just include schools. The Rwandan government is also planning to invest in solar power for 46 health centers located too far off of the national grid to be able to access public power. The new solar panels at the schools and health centers will help to create a better quality of life for men, women, and children living in remote villages throughout the country.

Solar power has already been put into use in other parts of the country, and a local prison reported huge successes with its transition to solar energy. With more and more governments getting behind solar panels, the promise of this clean energy source seems to be growing every day. The advantages of solar energy are many, and providing electricity for rural school children to attend class and see the doctor is one of the best advantages to date.
