Knox County Tennessee to Go Solar in Schools

Solar panel kits are gaining in popularity with local governments as a way to save money on energy costs. Knox County officials have entered into an agreement to add solar panels to 80 public buildings, in an effort to save on costly electricity bills. Adding solar power to the county’s public schools is a key part of the new Knox County energy plan.

Officials are hoping that adding solar panels to schools in the county will make more money available for teacher salaries and school supplies. Monies that were previously used to pay the schools’ energy bills could be used for a number of different purposes that would benefit the county’s school children. The Board of Education and the Knox County Commission still have to approve the measure, but it looks as though it will happen.

Adding solar panels to schools may be a way to cut costs for schools across the country, freeing up much-needed education dollars for their true purpose. Schools can save hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on energy costs by going solar, and they can also use the opportunity to teach students about the value of renewable power sources.

Solar panel kits are being added to businesses and public buildings every day. The possibility of adding them to schools holds great potential for administrators and students. Parents can get in on the movement by suggesting the switch to solar power at school board meetings, to get the ball rolling in communities and school districts across the country.
